Look at this dry seed in my hand. It looks quiet and still, almost like nothing is happening. What do you think it needs before it can grow into a plant?

You had lots of ideas about what our seed needs. Here are the three we are going to give it: water, light and a warm place.

Hands up: which one do you think matters most?

Now the big one. What do you think would happen if we forgot one of them? Talk with your partner, then tell us which one you would forget to find out.

Look at the plant on the board. Which label goes where?

Now it is your turn to plant. Watch me first, then do each step carefully:

1. Put cotton wool in your clear cup.
2. Place your seed so you can still see it.
3. Add a small splash of water.
4. Write your name on the label.
5. Put your cup carefully on the class tray.

On your Investigation Journal page, draw your seed in its cup exactly as it looks today. Then draw the three things it needs: water, light and warmth. Pictures or simple marks are enough. You do not need to spell the words unless you want to.
