    1 - Getting Started ~4 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedClose your eyes for a moment. What can you still notice about this room?

Today we will use five different ways our bodies find things out. What do you already use without thinking?

    2 - Today's Words: Our Five Senses ~5 mins

Those things you still noticed with your eyes shut? That was your body finding things out. Here are the five ways we name them. We will meet one at a time.

    Key point

After each sense, point to the body part and say the sense name with me.

    • Sight: finding out with our eyes
    • Hearing: finding out with our ears
    • Smell: finding out with our nose
    • Touch: finding out with our hands and skin
    • Taste: finding out with our tongue

3 - Point to the Body Parts ~6 mins

Look at the child on the board. Five labels are waiting: eyes, ears, nose, hands and tongue.

Call out where each label should go as we name the sense it helps.

4 - Senses Sequence: One Kit at a Time ~12 mins

Illustration for Senses sequence: one kit at a timeWe will try one sense at a time. Kits move along each row.

    Key point

When it is your turn, use only the sense shown on the board. When it is not your turn, watch quietly and be ready to say the sense name and the body part.

After each kit we will say the sense and the body part together, then the board will change to the next sense.

5 - Record What One Sense Found Out ~6 mins

On your Investigation Journal page, choose one sense you used today.

    Key point

Use this stem: I used ___. My ___ helped me. I found out ___.

Write or draw the sense, the body part, and one thing that sense found out. One example only.
