1 - Getting Started ~3 mins
Four race bibs from sports day are pinned up out of order: 14, 8, 17, 11.
If these runners line up with the smallest bib first, who stands where?
2 - Watch and Notice ~8 mins
Three sets of number cards on the board. For each set, find the smallest card first, then the next, until the line climbs (each number is more than the one before it). Say each finished line aloud and listen for it getting bigger.
For the last set the numbers sit close together. Compare carefully, one pair at a time.
3 - Try It Together ~8 mins
Today we order number cards on the board. One pupil drags four cards into place from smallest to largest. The class watches and helps check the finished line. Read it aloud and check each number is more than the one before.

4 - Order Four Numbers in Your Copy ~4 mins
In your maths copy, copy these four numbers, then rewrite them smallest to largest:
- 16
- 7
- 12
- 19
5 - Class Challenge ~8 mins
Order each set from smallest to largest. When numbers sit close together, compare one pair at a time.
