    1 - Getting Started ~3 mins

This big number grid is our hundred square. What do you notice? What do you wonder?

    2 - Watch and Notice ~7 mins

The hundred square is on the board. Numbers grow along each row in rows of ten. Watch where the small top-row numbers live and where the teens sit.

17 sits under 7 because it is ten more. We call 7 the little friend of 17. Every teen sits under its little friend.

Read the second row with me as ten and one, ten and two…

    3 - Try It Together ~7 mins

Today we explore: shade the number the teacher calls, up to 20. For every teen, say “ten and ___” before we check.

4 - Write the Second Row in Your Copy ~5 mins

In your maths copy, write the second row of the hundred square: 11 to 20.

On your printed hundred square sheet, shade each of those numbers as you write it.

    5 - Class Challenge ~7 mins

Shade the number for each clue. Before you shade, decide: top row or second row?
