You have banked four Key Assignments across the course. The last 10 credits sit on a 2-hour written paper of problems set in real contexts: planning, the world around you, life skills and work.
Today you practise that paper style. You will see how the paper is built, walk two model answers with the class, then work a mixed set yourself and file the answers in your Maths Portfolio.
The written paper is not a memory test. It asks you to use the maths you already know on fresh real-life situations. Three habits carry the marks: pick the right method, show every step, and finish with a sentence that answers the real question.

The formal exam is SEC-administered at an exam centre at the end of Year 2. It is 2 hours long. Questions draw on MCS 1–5 through the four module topics. A practical classroom timing plan many students use:
A copy of the Formulae and Tables booklet is handed out by the superintendent in the exam hall. Most students have never opened one, and the hall is a bad place to start.

Work two exam-style problems with the class. For each one, predict the method before the working appears, then check your steps against the model answer. Notice the four habits every time: method, working, unit, sentence.
Problem 1 (Planning): A community centre room measures 6.4 m by 4.5 m. Vinyl flooring costs €28 per m². How much flooring is needed, and what does it cost?
Problem 2 (Work): Aoife works 32 hours at €13.50 per hour, plus 4 overtime hours at time-and-a-half. What is her gross pay for the week?
Now work four exam-style problems on your own. They draw on all four modules. For each one: choose the method, show every step, attach the unit, and finish with one interpretation sentence.
