    Ten frame
    Ten frame

    1 - Getting Started ~3 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedLook at this empty egg box from the shop. It holds 12 eggs. Is 12 more than ten fingers? How do you know?

    2 - Watch and Notice ~7 mins

Look at these ten-frames. Each one shows a full ten. The extras (the counters past the full ten) are different on each frame. Read each one as ten and ___.

On the last frame, say how many more than ten before we name it.

    3 - Try It Together ~8 mins

    Key point

Build a full ten first. Then add the extras.

We'll try eleven: say ten and one, then build it.

Next, twelve: say ten and two, then build it.

Then eleven again, then twelve again. Each time, say ten and ___ before we check.

    Build eleven or twelve

    4 - Write 11 and 12 in Your Copy ~4 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

In your maths copy, write 11 and 12 three times each, saying "ten and one, ten and two" as you write.

    5 - Class Challenge ~7 mins

Today we work through these together: show 10, then show 11, then show 12, then make 12 starting from a full ten.

For 10, is this a full ten with nothing left over? For 11 and 12, how many more than ten is each one?
